Admissions Application

Application fee - $10.00 (money order or cashier's check ONLY)
• Personal Checks will not be accepted.
• This fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

The board of Regents at their October 2005 meeting requested that the admission standards be reviewed and revised. The following admissions policy effective fall 2006 was approved on December 13, 2005 and revised on May 30, 2006. Current Admission Requirements are as follows:

1. Students applying to attend Haskell must either be an enrolled or official member of a Federally recognized tribe eligible for education benefits from the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) or at least one-fourth total degree Indian blood descendant of an enrolled member of a tribe eligible for BIA education benefits. Official documentation regarding tribal recognition signed by the appropriate BIA agency or tribe must accompany application.
2. All students must have a high school diploma, or a General Education Development (GED) diploma with an earned average score of 45 or higher. An official copy of a high school or GED transcript must accompany the application. In case of first-time freshman, a copy of the 7th semester high school transcript with projected graduation date is acceptable for preliminary review. Upon graduation, an official transcript must be submitted.
3. All students applying for admission must submit either an ACT or SAT score.*
   1. Students with a composite score of 19 ACT/910 SAT or above qualify for admission.
   2. Students with a composite score of 18 ACT/870 SAT or below must meet two of the following three criteria: *
      1. A Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
      2. A composite of 15 ACT/740 SAT or above.
      3. High school class ranking of 50% or better, or proof of military service.
4. All students must have current Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) immunizations. Documentation of immunizations must accompany the application.
5. All students must submit an entrance essay of 300-500 words. The essay must address the question, “What are your educational goals and how can Haskell help you achieve those goals?” The essay must be typed and signed by the applicant verifying this writing as his/her work.
6. Students transferring from other colleges or universities must submit official transcripts from each college/university in which they were enrolled. Failure to report all prior academic work, either through attending a college, technical school, or university, is ground for disqualification of your application or suspension if accepted into the University. Transfer students must meet all admission requirements as noted above.
7. Students in good standing or on academic probation status, who attended Haskell in the previous five (5) calendar years and are returning at the same status as they were when they last attended, may apply on a short form application.
8. Students who have been gone more than five (5) years are required to complete the standard application and submit all required documents just as if they were a new student. This is due to past documents, older than five (5) years, not being on-site due to being forwarded to a national archival center for federal documents.

*Exceptions to Items 3 or 5, above:

1. Individuals who have significant life experiences or relevant continuing education are encouraged to submit a letter to the Admissions Review Board describing their exception(s) to Items 3 or 5 above.
2. Individuals who have previously attended and received grades from Haskell are exempt from submitting ACT/SAT scores.
3. ACT and SAT scores are required before the application deadline date in order for the application to be considered complete. The additional ACT Writing option is not required.

Haskell reserves the right to deny or cancel the acceptance or admission of any student whose attendance at the university would not be mutually beneficial for the student or the university.

In order for an application to be considered for acceptance, the following must be submitted by the respective semester enrollment deadline:

• Completed application form
• Certification of tribal enrollment, documents submitted must have an enrollment number
• Official copy of high school or GED transcript(s)
• Official copy of college/university transcript(s)
• ACT/SAT test scores
• Immunization document confirming MMR I & II vaccinations have been given (Measles, Mumps, & Rubella
• Entrance Essay – Must be typewritten, minimum 300 words, signed and dated
• $10 Application fee in the form of a cashier’s check or money order, no personal checks are accepted, option to pay on-line at haskell.edu (note confirmation number in application materials). Please do not send cash.
